Your child's initial assessment will involve your physiotherapist taking a detailed history of your child's injury or condition and assessing your child thoroughly, looking at joint range of movement, muscle strength, tone, reflexes, muscle lengths, special soft tissue tests, functional capabilities and more. They will also discuss their clinical findings with you and advise on injury management. This is also the point where your physiotherapist can start to build that all-important, long lasting and successful relationship with your child

Your child's follow-up appointment will be solely focused on applying the treatment modalities that your physiotherapist deems appropriate, such as exercises to stretch and/or strengthen, activities to improve balance/proprioception, manual therapy, massage therapy and taping. They can also take place in a variety of different settings such as our physiotherapy clinic, your child's home environment, school, nursery and gyms. Where appropriate, we can also seek to arrange a session at your child's sporting facility during their training sessions. It's during these sessions that we really get to have some fun!!

DMI THERAPY BLOCKS

Dynamic Movement Intervention (DMI) is a therapeutic technique used in physiotherapy to treat children with gross motor delay by improving automatic postural responses and help each child progress towards their developmental milestones (i.e. rolling, sitting, four-point,  crawling, standing, walking and transitions). This type of intervention stimulates neuroplasticity to enable your child's brain to form new synaptic connections in order to learn new skills.
