BABY MOT
PACKAGE

Our Baby MOT package offers a comprehensive assessment and follow-up programme of either 3 or 6 sessions, to check your baby's gross motor skills at key developmental stages.

Sessions can be taken any time within 12 months of purchase.

As parents, we love taking our babies out into the world to experience as much as they can, like taking them to baby classes, swimming, sensory rooms and so on. Once we're there we have a great time with the other parents and children, getting to know everybody and swapping notes. In this setting, we naturally start to discuss what our babies are doing now, how they're developing and maybe even begin troubleshooting!

So, what do you do if you notice your baby's development appears to be slightly behind other babies of the same age? Is your baby presenting with a different movement pattern compared to the other children? Does your baby seem to lack confidence to progress onto their next milestone?

Alternatively, are you about to become a new parent and would like some peace of mind from the outset?

If you nodded along to any of these questions, then the RVCP Baby MOT package is for you!

So what happens during a RVCP Baby MOT session?

During your first consultation, we will sit down with you as the parent and gather a full history from you - we want to know all about your baby! This will include their likes, dislikes, whether they become anxious around new faces and if there are any particular things that soothe them. We will also ask about your baby's medical background, social circumstances, birth history, feeding habits and so on. This part usually takes around half of the session, so your baby has plenty of time to relax and play.

Once we have gathered a history, we then get down on the floor and begin playing. We allow them to gradually adjust to the Physio by singing songs, playing games or generally being silly (we're pretty good at that!). We then motivate your baby to perform functional movements through play and fun. Once your baby is content and happy, we then complete a pain-free physical examination.

Our assessments will check for potential:

  • Foot deformities

  • Hip dysplasia

  • Reduced ranges of movement (such as Torticollis)

  • Head shape abnormalities

  • Neurological disorders

  • Developmental delay

Your Physiotherapist will then:

  • Answer any questions

  • Provide you with advice and information about any underlying pathologies they suspect or diagnose

  • Teach you appropriate exercises that will help your baby

  • Make any necessary onward referrals to Paediatrics, Orthopaedics, Neurology, GP etc

During your follow-up sessions, we will find out how you have been managing with your baby's exercises, if you have any concerns or have noticed any unusual movement patterns or presentations, if you have any new clinical information to report, and we make sure to protect time for any new questions you have. Once we've briefly covered these topics, we can once again move on to assess your baby's gross motor skills and provide you with further treatment/exercises to promote their developmental progression.
